[Greg can pout all he wants.  I can try to pet him, and he'll move a foot
farther away.  But if *I* then turn and pout, he'll instantly snap out of it
and run and insist I have to pet him because he's all insecure that I don't
love him anymore.  He just gets love and kisses when he does that.  Too
sweet...]

I think the problem lies with e-mail itself. It can be really hard to tell
if something was said tongue in cheek, or jokingly, or coldly, etc.
