[Petbunny] OT: Rant about exclusion of self-published book authors.

Dear folks;
I know I shouldn't complain but I do feel discriminated against whenever a
contest or award is advertised and then I find out it isn't for
self-published authors. I worked very hard on my books, had both
professionally edited, and all on my own dime. Many of these literary
contest organizers receive public funding, as do awards such as the City of
Edmonton Book Prize. Yet, they exclude people such as myself because I'm
not funded by some corporation. Those ivory tower elites really bug me.
There's a myth going around that self-published books are shawdy and full of
errors. As far as I know, mine aren't. I really feel upset because such
contests, which people have to pay to enter, only highlight what businesses
deem profitable and worthy of publishing instead of letting everybody's
books compete and be judged on their literary merits. I won't bother
entering or even reading about such elite awards.
Respectfully,
Bruce Atchison - non-award-winning author of Deliverance from Jericho (Six
Years in a Blind School) and When a Man Loves a Rabbit ((Learning and Living
With Bunnies).
